Designed by 27 year-old architect and sculptor Peter Parler, the Charles Bridge has provided passage over Prague’s Vltava River for over 6 centuries. The most famous member of a dynasty of masons active in the 14th and 15th centuries, Named after Czech King Charles IV, the Charles Bridge was built to allow 4 carriages to cross at the same time. Today, it is a pedestrian bridge, linking Prague’s historic Old and Lesser Town districts. Resting on 16 arches, the bridge is decorated with 75 statues.
